Policy Statement
Schewe Library is committed to lending a variety of materials to Illinois College students, faculty, and staff and community patrons. This policy outlines Schewe Library’s lending and circulation operations.
Eligible Patron Groups
The following patron groups are eligible to borrow items from Schewe Library:
• Current faculty, staff, and students of Illinois College.
• Emeriti of Illinois College. • Community borrowers (Illinois residents over 18 years of age).
Item Types
The following types of items circulate at Schewe Library:
• Books and monographs.
• CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays.
• Kits.
• Equipment.
• Course reserve items (which do not circulate outside the library).
Items Which Do Not Circulate
The following types of items do not circulate at Schewe Library:
• Reference materials.
• Periodicals (including bound journals and newspapers).
Course Reserves
Schewe Library has a course reserves system, which allows Illinois College faculty, staff, and students to make items available for a given class or campus organization on a short-term basis. The following item types may be put on course reserves:
• Any item owned by the library.
• Any item owned by a faculty or staff member (including copies of articles which have been legally obtained through interlibrary loan or other means).
• Items not owned by the library or faculty/staff member are, for reasons of copyright, ineligible to be placed on course reserve. As examples, I-Share items cannot be put on course reserve.
• Faculty or staff wishing to place items on a course reserve must submit the materials to the library at least 1-2 days in advance of the date students would first need to use the materials.
• Anyone using the course reserve service is responsible for remaining in compliance with United States copyright law.
Billing & Fines
Schewe Library reserves the right to bill patrons for the replacement cost of lost items, in addition to a processing fee. The library will inform patrons via email when items are coming due, and patrons will be expected to return the item(s) promptly.
• Equipment is considered lost if it is 3 days overdue. Illinois College/Schewe Library will bill patrons for lost equipment. Patrons will be bill for the replacement cost of the item, plus a $15 processing fee.
• All other materials are considered lost if they are 45 days overdue.
Schewe Library will bill patrons for lost materials. We bill for the replacement cost of a new item, plus a $15 processing fee. In lieu of payment, Schewe Library will accept a new replacement copy of the exact item in question.
