Policy Statement
This policy describes the procedures and conditions for making gifts or material donations to Schewe Library. Schewe Library is pleased to accept donations of material in good physical condition and that support the collecting scope of the library. The library is also pleased to accept monetary gifts.
Donating Material
Schewe Library is pleased to accept donated material which meets the following criteria:
• Material is in good condition.
• Material fits within the scope of the library’s collections or the college’s curricular interests.
• Material is timely or of historical significance.
• Material is donated unconditionally.
Material Unsuitable for Donation
Regretfully, Schewe Library is unable to accept the following types of donated material:
• Legacy formats (cassette tapes, CDs, vinyl, VHS, etc.).
• Textbooks.
• Bound journals.
• Newspapers and magazines.
• Damaged material (moldy, rotting, physically compromised, etc.).
Donation Procedure
Small material donations may be delivered directly to Schewe Library. Larger material donations will be referred to the Illinois College Office of Advancement and Alumni Engagement.
Material donations arriving at Schewe Library must be received by a member of the professional library faculty or staff.
Donor Rights
Once accepted, material donations to Schewe Library become the property of Schewe Library and/or Illinois College. The following apply to all material donations made to Schewe Library:
• The donor will receive an acknowledgement of the gift, including the total number of materials donated.
• Schewe Library is unable to appraise or assign monetary value to material donations.
• Schewe Library is unable to accept material donations with restrictions or use conditions.
• Donated material may be deselected from the library’s collections as per the library’s Collection Development Policy.
Gift & Donation Policy Monetary Gifts
Schewe Library is pleased to accept monetary gifts, bequests, and charitable annuities. Giving should be jointly arranged through the Library Director and Illinois College's Office of Advancement and Alumni Engagement. Conditional or restricted gifts are not accepted.
