AI Teaching Strategies for Faculty: Faculty Learning Community

This guide was created to support faculty with AI resistant strategies and AI inclusive strategies based on the Creative Teaching Conversation session on 12-5-2024. More content will be added.

Third Session

This week, Bree offered some demonstrations of a few image generation tools- NightCafe, Gemini, and ChatGPT as well as some research tools- Elicit, Concensus, Keenious, and Research Rabbit. Then it was time for open discussion and practice with the tools.

Fourth Session

During this final session, we all shared our perspectives on generative AI. We considered the following questions:

  • How do you envision AI changing the landscape of education in the next five years?
  • What ethical considerations do you think are most important when using AI in the classroom?
  • In what ways do you think AI can enhance student engagement and motivation?
  • What are some potential pitfalls of relying on AI in teaching and learning?
  • What role do you think AI should play in personalized learning?
  • How can we balance the use of AI with traditional teaching methods?
  • How can AI be used to support students with diverse learning needs?
  • What are some successful examples of AI integration you’ve seen or implemented?
  • How do you think AI can assist in administrative tasks for educators?
  • How can we prepare students for a future where AI is prevalent in the workforce?
  • What skills do you think educators need to effectively integrate AI into their teaching?
  • What resources or support do you think would be helpful moving forward regarding generative AI and higher education?

Share-out Prompts (these are to help you brainstorm, you can share-out about anything you would like related to AI and our faculty learning community):

  • Share a specific instance where you used an AI tool in your teaching. What was the outcome?
  • Describe a personal project or task where AI has made a significant impact on your efficiency or creativity.
  • Share a lesson plan or activity that incorporates AI. What were your goals, and how did it go?
  • Talk about a resource (article, video, tool) that has influenced your understanding of AI. What did you learn?
  • Share your thoughts on the ethical implications of using AI in your teaching. What concerns do you have?
  • Discuss how you’ve seen AI change the way students approach their learning or assignments.
  • Reflect on your own learning journey with AI. What misconceptions did you have, and how have they changed?
