Regional Information

Central Asia is West of China, South of Russia, and North of Afghanistan. Given that the name of each country in Central Asia ends in "-stan," the region is sometimes referred to as "The Stans." Central Asia played an important role in the transportation of goods between China and Europe during the Silk Road era.

Cyrillic Map Collection - Indiana University's collection of Soviet-era maps.
Digital Silk Road - Historical maps along the Old Silk Road.
Vostochnaya Literatura - In Russian. Contains many maps, including the region.
Cross Asia - Berlin collection of Mongolian manuscript maps from the late Qing period. In German.
United Nations : Map Library - Map Collection holds over 80,000 maps, some 3,000 atlases, gazetteers, travel guides, reference works and digital products.
