EN 121 B Principles of Writing: Library Classes (Dr. Kara Dorris and Elora Agsten- Spring 2021): Week 3: Books

The Library classes for Dr. Dorris' EN 121 class.

Finding Books

This class will go over the places you can find books in Schewe Library. You will also learn the difference between popular and scholarly sources. This is an important distinction to understand when choosing sources for any research project.

In this class, you will learn how to:

  • Find books in the Schewe Library Catalog.
  • Find books in I-Share.
    • A note about I-Share: due to the pandemic, I-Share is a little limited right now. However, this is VERY important for non-pandemic times, so be sure to review this information and save it for the future. I-Share allows you to borrow books from other college libraries all over the state of Illinois.
  • Find eBooks.
  • Differentiate between popular and scholarly sources.

What is required this week:

  • Read the handouts on this page.
  • Watch the videos on this page.
  • Add five book URLS and a one sentence annotation for each to your Google Doc by Sunday, February 7 at 11:59pm.
    • I'll give you feedback on these during Week 4.
