Disability Studies Resources: Library Building Accessibility

This guide will help you locate resources related to Disability Studies in Schewe Library.

Schewe Library Information

Accessible Parking:
The closest parking lot to Schewe Library is directly behind the Library off Park Street. The lot is small, but you will find a disability-accessible space on the leftmost side of the lot, closest to the building. From there, you can enter the main floor of the Library from the ramp that leads up the Hilltop to the quad.

Other Parking Information:
If you have a blue parking pass, you are welcome to park in the small lot behind the Library, if there is an available space.
We ask all other IC patrons of Schewe Library who need to park to do so on Park Street or any surrounding IC lots.

If you are a non-IC affiliated patron, you can find a map of campus with visitor parking information here (Schewe Library is building 33) or park on any nearby street parking.

Navigating Schewe Library and Elevator Access
Schewe Library has three floors. The elevator for Schewe Library is located in the librarian offices on the main floor, but is open to the public to use. It is located within view of a hallway near the circulation desk.  Any library faculty or staff member will be happy to assist you in locating it, if you have any difficulties.

Stairs are located between the Circulation desk and Schewe 212 (directly to the right of the main floor entrance) and behind the Digital Learning Center.

Organization
Schewe Library is organized by subject with the Dewey Decimal Classification system. You can find a basic overview of Dewey Decimal Classification through this link on page 9; the following pages will give you a detailed explanation of what subjects are in each class.

Each book will feature a sticker with its Dewey Decimal call number. Items with call numbers 000-499 can be found on the lower floor and items with call numbers 500-999 can be found on the third floor (see the floor plans below for more details).

Call numbers for specific titles can easily be located through our online catalog. If you have any difficulties locating an item, please contact a library faculty or staff member.

Restrooms
Restrooms are located on the lower floor near the Khalaf al Habtoor Archives. If you need an all-gender or main floor restroom, you can find one in Kirby Learning Center (building 23), a two-minutes away from the Library down an accessible, outdoor path.

Sensory-Friendly Space

A sensory-friendly and meditation space is available on the third floor of Schewe Library in Room 304, directly to the right of the elevator. No reservation is required!
