Young Adult Literature in Schewe Library: Resources for Finding More YA

The New York Times reviews hundreds of children's and young adult titles every year. You have access to a free subscription via Schewe Library. While you need to signup for an account when you are off campus, if you are on-campus and using IC WiFi, you will automatically be able to access The New York Times.

School Library Journal is a professional journal that features information on books and resources for teachers and youth librarians. You can find access to all available issues on the right side menu.

Horn Book Magazine is a review journal that covers the scope of children's and young adult literature. You can access all available issues through the right side menu, and you can also use current physical copies in Schewe Library.

A review journal put out by the Center for Children's Books at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. This journal reviews children's titles of all ages, including YA, and features a best of the year list in their "Blue Ribbons."

The Printz Award is given annually by the American Library Association to outstanding titles of young adult literature.

The Pura Belpre Award is given annually to an author and illustrator who "best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth." The award has categories for both children's and young adult titles.

Given annually by the American Library Association, the Stonewall Book Award honors the best titles featuring LGBTQIA+ characters. This award features categories in children's, young adult, and adult literature.

A grassroots organization that advocates for diversity in the children's and young adult publishing industry. They define diversity as, "including (but not limited to) LGBTQIA, Native, people of color, gender diversity, people with disabilities*, and ethnic, cultural, and religious minorities." This site also includes resources for readers, educators, and a blog.
