Introduction

Welcome to Schewe Library! 

Below you will find a guide to some frequently asked questions.

Borrowing

How do I check out library materials?

You can check out library materials at the front desk on the main floor of the library. You will need either your Illinois College ID Card or your Digital ID on the IC app.

How do I renew materials?

You can renew materials by:

 1) Logging into your account in the online catalog.

 2) Stopping by the front desk or calling 217.345.3020 during library hours.

 3) Contacting library staff.

 

Where/how can I access my library account? 

You can access your library account from the I-Share Catalog link on Single Sign On (SSO) or the library homepage. 

If it's your first time logging in, you will need to link your account to your library barcode. Your barcode is the 14-digit number on the back of your Illinois College ID card. 

Where can I request library materials that Schewe Library doesn't own?

You can request materials from other libraries through I-Share. Items typically arrive within 3-5 business days.

If an item is not available through I-Share, you can submit an InterLibrary Loan Request. These items are coming from outside our library system so they may take up to 5-10 business days to arrive. 

How do I access eBooks?

1) Search for the book you want to read in the catalog and click into the item record. 

2) Inside the item record there will be a link that says "connect to ebook". Click this link. 

3) Choose Illinois College from the dropdown menu, and log in with your Connect2 username and password. If you do not have an IC login or if you have any trouble accessing your book, please ask library staff for assistance.


Research 

How can I get help researching a topic?

The reference desk is staffed by librarians Monday - Friday from 10:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

You may also contact a librarian to make an appointment outside of regular reference hours. 

How do I access library databases from off-campus?

You can access library databases off-campus via our databases page where you will be prompted to enter your campus login. Please contact our Access Services Librarian if you're having trouble connecting from off-campus. 


Building Information

Can I reserve a room in the library? 

The Pratt Classroom (Schewe 210) and the glass study room (Schewe 211) are available for reservations. You can make same-day reservations using the tablet  located outside of each room. Faculty & staff can reserve either room in advance via EMS. More information about our rooms can be found in the Facilities tab above. 

Is food/drink allowed in the library?

Food and drink are allowed on all three levels of the library. For more details, please refer to the Food, Drink, & Tobacco Policy in the Policies tab above. 


Visitors

Can community members use the library?

Schewe Library is open to members of the public, including patrons from other Illinois libraries. For more details about community borrower privileges, please see our Community Patron Policy in the Policies tab above. 

Is there visitor parking? 

Free street parking is available along West College Avenue, Park Street, and Grove Street.
